About task usage rates

Every step in a Zap and every call from an external connector uses tasks — but not all at the same rate. AI model tier, code runtime, and connector type each affect how many tasks an action uses.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Zap?

A Zap is an automated workflow that connects your apps and services. Each Zap consists of a trigger (an event in one app) and one or more actions (events in other apps). When the trigger event happens, Zapier automatically runs the actions for you.

What are tasks?

A task is any action your Zap successfully completes. For example, if your Zap creates a new contact, that's one task. Failed actions don't count toward your task limit.

Does checking (or polling) for new data use tasks?

Zapier never charges you a task to check for new data — only when a Zap successfully completes an action for you.

How many tasks do I need?

The number of tasks you need depends on how many active Zaps you have and how often they run. Use the task slider above to estimate. We'll email you as you approach your limit, and you can switch to pay-per-task billing until you upgrade.

What happens if I hit my task limit?

We'll email you as you approach the limit. Once you hit it, you can switch to pay-per-task billing at 1.25× your plan's task rate (capped per month). You can also upgrade to a higher tier at any time. If you choose not to enable pay-per-task billing, your Zaps will pause until the next billing cycle.

Will I be charged a task for any of Zapier's built-in data tools?

No — Tables, Forms, Filter, Formatter, Path, Delay, Looping, and other built-in "by Zapier" tools don't count as tasks when used inside a Zap. Note that actions for Tables, Forms, and other built-in apps taken via Zapier MCP do count toward your task usage (each MCP tool call uses two tasks).

Should I use the Team or Enterprise plan?

Team is built for collaboration: shared Zaps and folders, shared app connections, SAML SSO, and Premier Support. Enterprise adds advanced admin permissions, unlimited users, observability, annual task limits, and a dedicated Technical Account Manager. If your organization needs enterprise governance and deployment controls, choose Enterprise.

Do you have a free trial of your premium features?

Yes — every new Zapier account gets a 14-day trial of the Professional plan's premium features. Team and Enterprise trials are available on request.

Can I change my plan later?

Yes. You can upgrade at any time and the change takes effect immediately. Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing cycle.

Do you offer any discounts?

Yes — you save 33% by committing to annual payments instead of monthly. Registered nonprofits qualify for a 15% discount on top of standard pricing.

Can you charge me in my local currency?
